Today was my first day back at university for the second half of second year! How exciting!
I did not sleep very well last night, I tossed and turned a lot and I am not sure if this was due to being super excited or nervous for the new tasks that will be set. Everything this year has gone up a level; from a level 4 to a level 5 criteria. The standards are getting higher, so I need to make sure I am on my best performance and get organised from the get go.
I made my way to university, thinking about the poster presentations (our next task I had read about as preparation for today’s session). I felt confident for once! I felt excited and ready to get started. I feel like I have gained that little bit extra confidence with public speaking and presenting so in my mind, I thought this next module is going to be a breeze.
In today’s lectures, we have been focusing on our poster presentations and evidence based practice. I met with my group for the poster presentation for the first time today; which was lovely! It is nice to see new faces and work along side new students.
Our presentation is based around dementia and we have to come up with a question to analyse and discuss; a clinical research based presentation. Furthermore, we jotted down a few ideas for our presentation and we have narrowed it down to an area we think would be best.
Following this, the lecturer spoke about different types of research and how to search the data base at the university and other data base sites too. We have already used a couple of the data bases in our first year assignments, so luckily this was not completely new to us.
Data bases include;
- Cochrane library
As the day came to an end, I realised this poster presentation is not going to be as easy as I initially thought. We have a lot more work to put into this than I imagined and now I do not feel as confident as I did this morning. I am nervous. On the plus side, I have a great team of students and we are all motivated and want to get a great result from this! I think the skill mix between us will really benefit us for this presentation. Any weakness I have, I know someone else will have strength in and vice versa.
Dates for our next lot of submissions are, WC:
- 9th July – poster presentation week
- 6th August – maths exam week
- 31st August – leaflet with rationale
- 7th September- Essay with rationale
- 17th September- Nursing practice 3 exam week.
- Care plan and rationale
What a line up! As long as I am organised, these months will not be as bad as that looks. Fingers crossed for some high grades. Until next time, have a great week everyone.
